Custom Patches
Iron-on vs sew-on vs velcro patches
Pick the right backing for uniforms, jackets, caps, teams, and merch drops.

Quick answer
Iron-on patches use heat-activated backing, sew-on patches are stitched to the garment, and Velcro patches use hook-and-loop attachment for removal. Choose the backing around the garment, application method, and whether the patch needs to be removable.
Iron-on: check fabric compatibility
Iron-on backing can simplify application on compatible garments, but the fabric must tolerate the required heat. Do not guess the temperature or pressing time: request application instructions for the supplied patch and check the garment care label. Heat-sensitive fabrics, coatings, and curved surfaces may need a different attachment method.
Sew-on: plan a permanent attachment
Sew-on patches are attached with stitching around the border. They are useful when a permanent stitched attachment fits the garment and production process. Consider access to the inside of the garment, the patch border, and the finished position. Share the garment type and patch dimensions so the team can advise on a suitable style and backing.
Velcro: removable and exchangeable
Velcro backing is useful when patches need to be removed or exchanged on uniforms, bags, or gear. Confirm whether the order includes both sides of the hook-and-loop pair and how the receiving side will attach to the garment. Before production, approve the patch type, size, shape, backing, quantity, and proof together rather than treating backing as an afterthought.
